memes aside, the more I think about it, the more video games, visual novels or quasi-animations look appealing as a medium for storytelling. Manga is awesome, but holy shit, creating it seems like hell. Visual novels on the other hand? Literally just a couple drawings and backgrounds and sound effects and text do the rest of the heavy lifting. It seems... very flexible. Like, you can barely draw shit for some scenes and then add a lot more art in other places that you think need more visual fleshing out.

>> No.5127556

The art is usually the least important part of a VN honestly. I play a lot and unless it's a nukige I can excuse shit that looks like it was dragged out the bottom of /beg/ if the story is good.
Lots of doujin circles are just one person who does everything themself and those games are often my favourites.

>> No.5127589

Just art alone tends to mean the art has to be 110% better than everyone else around them, world wide, to succeed.
Being a competent artist, programmer, and sound designer that is MOTIVATED however is an extremely rare 1:1,000,000 thing that allows all of the subsets to just be 'good' without requiring any of them to truly be 'incredible'

Don't pigeon hole yourself into just art. Read some C# tutorials today!

I feel the solution to this would be having a strict moderation team or strict rules so people don't stray too much out of art.
This however has the price of limiting interaction mostly to active artists, which would leave out most people ITT, who rarely draw.

i don’t know why this advice isn’t given more often. it’s kind a meme that you have to draw from life first and then draw cartoons. you should draw from life, but drawing simple cartoons is actually a great way to learn form, fluid movement, and it builds confidence in a way. that’s why you start off with the lumpy loomis head guys. better returns when you’re starting out, because it actually is easier. start easy and then build up to harder, more realistic subjects.

If you don't care about a career, or social media, then what's the fastest/best way to learn to draw cute girls? I want to draw purely for fun, so I don't really care for the advanced shit and learning to shade realistically, etc. Maybe, even if it's inefficient, this will help spark my passion and eventually I can learn more professionally.

I'm thinking something like forms and dexterity (since that is the basis of everything), and then going straight into proportion, and gesture. After getting those down, maybe very basic anatomy but again nothing insane. I don't need to memorize the name of every muscle inside of someone. Lastly, learning to draw faces/facial features (and LOOMIS). Somewhere in between/throughout would be like studying from artists you like, copying their style and figuring out what you want to do for yourself. Is this a decent plan? Could always throw in some dynamic sketching somewhere in between so you can actually texture the clothes or something and make it look nice.

That was my method for getting good.

You can also start digital but only if you have a really good device (cintiq, s7+, ipad). I would never have learned to properly draw with the shitty wobbly digitiser I have on my surface pro. It destroys any subtle hand to eye coordination. Luckily I started with paper and pencil.

3rd- How To Draw By Scott Robertson (CHAPTER 1-6 if you only want to draw human figure)
