this course isn't good. it's mainly for oil painters and the theory is really basic compared to what you can get out of a book. only thing i kept from it were some of the demos and did it along with him but this class is incredibly overrated. david hornung's color, alla prima, and gurney's books cover way more and more practical info.

You sweet summer child. If you think it's style and flow they are looking for, then you have to rethink a lot of stuff dear little anon.
They are looking for people that can churn out a ton of work every day. This is why artists rely on photobashing in order to be able to meet deadlines.

Drawing from imagination is based on experience and internalised visual library. If you bitch online it will be impossible.

Use references, but do not trace them. With time you'll be able to draw certain things and poses by imagination and modify them. By more time the number of those will extend. But only if you keep at it.

Yes, this is much better. Keep working on tightening up your lines, keep them evenly spaced, closer together. You don't want big spaces in between your lines because it interrupts the pattern and they stop blending. For your cross hatching, you want to angle the second layer so it's not going straight against the previous layer. If you do it like an X you get those big squares in the middle. Keep it up, take your time with it, really focus on putting down each line deliberately.

You need consistence to show the planes of the forms
but otherwise you can do whatever, what's stopping you from having multiple light sources off screen that don't make sense? nothing

>the great majority of 3D and photos have no artistic personality, no uniqueness, no style, realistic lightning is not determining their appeal but it also is when it comes to really good ones.

less light sources = easier to not fuck up abysmally
add in different colors for each different light source and you better have a really good understanding of light physics to pull it off

File: 1011KiB, 1920x1080, film-lighting.jpg [View Same] [Google] [iqdb] [SauceNAO]

this. every photographer or cinematographer worth a dime knows you use extra lights to get better results. on the other hand, just throwing lights in the scene and expecting shit to look good is retarded. you're better of with natural light until you know what the fuck you're doing.

>> No.5148176

>Does lighting have to be "consistent"?
You're confusing "consistent" with "simple" or "natural." The real world is full of multiple light sources, and in photography and film light is constantly being "faked" with artificial lights and reflectors for the sake of better composition or clarity in form. Artists do the same thing.
