The way I'd define sword and sorcery in a word is that it's not grim and dark, it's romantic (not the carnal sort) and dark. I don't think I recall a single environment in Conan which was dreary and dismal and squalid except obviously for Cimmeria (which we never visit) and maybe Hyperborea.

We have pretty consistent references to his skin being darkened/bronzed. The guy was not some pasty Scotsman by any measure, he was firmly 'black irish' look like Colin Farrel or Pierce Brosnan quick hide the fat Brythunian slave women.

>He was almost a giant in stature, muscles rippling smoothly under his skin, which the sun had burned brown. [Red nails]
>The invader was a tall man, at once strong and supple. He was dressed like a hillman, but his dark features and blazing blue eyes did not match his garb. [Black circle - clearly the dark features are a'la tall dark and handsome, not necessarily skin tone but usually does imply a healthy tanned glow, not pasty]

>Behind an ivory, gold- inlaid writing-table sat a man whose broad shoulders and sun-browned skin seemed out of place among those luxuriant surroundings. He seemed more a part of the sun and winds and high places of the outlands. His slightest movement spoke of steel-spring muscles knit to a keen brain with the co-ordination of a born fighting-man. [phoenix on the sword]

>A touch on his tunic sleeve made him turn his head, scowling at the interruption. He saw a tall, strongly made youth standing beside him. This person was as much out of place in that den as a gray wolf among mangy rats of the gutters. His cheap tunic could not conceal the hard, rangy lines of his powerful frame, the broad heavy shoulders, the massive chest, lean waist and heavy arms. His skin was brown from outland suns, his eyes blue and smoldering; a shock of tousled black hair crowned his broad forehead. From his girdle hung a sword in a worn leather scabbard. [Tower of the elephant]

>> No.77133422

Obviously in those cases it always mentions the sun tanned him so, but I cannot recall a single passage where he's pasty and pale. As you mentioned Momoa's innate complexion can just be passed off as a tan. I didn't see the movie but I didn't have a problem with Momoa's casting.

As for a director, if you could synthesize Ridley Scot in the era of Gladiator he'd be great, but he's lost the mojo he had in that film. I can't name a director I'd have faith in off of an existing product, but above all you'd want a director willing to listen to his art team/research team the way Ridley Scot did on Kingdom of Heaven. He went into it wanting plate clad knights vs lawrence of arabia bedouin, until they corrected him and pointed him on the right way.

You'd need someone like that for Conan, to point them towards sword and sorcery and away from game of thrones.

>> No.77133446

Nah none of those lyrics resonate with any of Conan's stories. The lyrics themselves seem to imply an almost paladin like chivalry and quest to best this evil priest-king. The procession of grim silent demons marching to their secret keep would best match the lizardmen who conspire against Kull, but the rest of that doesn't.

I would agree with Sword and Sorcery feeling romantic and dark. Various dungeons, jungles, and cities were dreary/dismal/squalid. There is a difference though between a squalid dungeon shot by a competent filmmaker and crew, and a soulless flat grey dungeon shot by a studio. Conan the Destroyer... hell, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, is more interesting to look at than the Mamoa Conan.

Actually the exact same thing happened last time someone in my game played a flying race lmao. He flew into prepared shots by about a dozen archers and got downed and died outright. It's silly to pretend this counteracts all the advantages of flying, but I agree it's not broken in the sense it's usually talked about.

>> No.77117429

To be fair the guy playing the flier also isn't trying to break the game, he's got 12 AC and intentionally made sure he was within firing range of the bows. The race is homebrew the GM provided, and so he has featherfall when he falls from flight, but I still had to run over and shove one of his healing potions down his gob on my turn to keep him from dying because he crit-failed his first death save.

The entire party really is an unoptimized mess, but it's been fun considering that same character is also a drug addict and we were burning an entire field of the drug he's addicted to, so he failed his con save to resist it and was high off his ass the rest of the fight.

>> No.77117548

Not that I can't describe it, I just assumed you were smart enough to see them for yourself. I will not make that mistake again.

Just off the top of my head:
Removal of free content
Increased focus on premium products (this has been an issue for a while, but has gotten egregious over the last year)
Increased focus on secondary revenue streams (MTGO payed events)
Leaning on other products for adjacency-based marketing (the D&D setting guides)

This is all the same type of shit they did when they were tanking hard right before the Modern redesign. Just using D&D and MTGO instead of magazine tie-ins and new videogames.

we've been able to kill creatures just as big and even bigger since the stone age.
Also they weren't that fast. Biomechanical studies show they likely moved between 5-20 kmh, the same speed as humans, so unless somehow we can't see them coming we can easily escape them especially if you consider that due to their size they will have a harder time turning and accelerating due to momentum.
Any medieval setting woul make short work of them, for a medieval fantasy setting they won't even be an issue.

I tell Lorgar that the fate of Kor Phaeron was up to him, and that he needed to either find a way to save him before its too late, or put him down if he cannot. I tell him that Erebus is too far gone as he was a closeted Chaos worshipper even before he was an Astartes and that he must be stopped before he spreads the taint to any of his brothers. I tell Angron that his Butcher's Nails are doing him far more harm than any good they could possibly do for the Imperium, and are making him vulnerable to Khornate influence. I tell him that the future implantation of the nails into any persons must be forbidden, and research into their potential safe removal must become a priority for his own good and for that of mankind.

Like SO MUCH FORCE AGAINST CHAOS steers in part because of the religious faith of the Empire. All the saints, all the religious orders, the inquisitors, the basic people that manage to hold off chaos because of faith and such.

Tempest Eye was incredible for a brief period of time before they updated KO.

40 Arkanauts buffed by Hawk-eyed (+1 wound), Hurricanum (+1 hit), and a Khemist (+1 attack)
First turn you shoot 24 Skyhooks at 3+/2+/-2/D3 (with +1 hit against HERO/MONSTER) and spend a command point to reroll hit1

Then you swap to buffing pistols when they got closer and unleash 12 Skyhooks and 84 pistol shots at 3+/3+.

Back then the only shooting armies were Stormcast so you could easily roll over the melee-focused meta

Too bad they yeeted all the fun from arkanauts with the KO 2.0 book

>What is This?
Hearts of Darkness is the sequel, successor, and various other phrases to /tg/ homebrew project Witchdoctors and Warcrimes. With a focus on managing a group of soldiers, Hearts of Darkness is a dramatic war simulator that forces Characters to compromise between survival, success, and their own morality.

>What's the System?
Simplistic 1d10 system that's more akin to the bastard child of Cyberpunk 2020 along with a card system reflecting the Character's faith and luck.

>How Can I Help?
Post suggestions, feel free to contribute any useful information and critique anything you find in the document. I'll be posting updates here as I claw through the various aspects of the game. Take special note of the Large Scale Combat and Equipment sections, I added quite a bit of "stuff" there. In addition to the Faction Management, you want to be a real hero, make an insurgency of your choice to see if the numbers work.

Also thank you for thread 2.

Oh god you made another one.
I'll give you credit for being dedicated.

As a side note, the To-Do List is Comment Enabled, so if you have ideas or weird concepts you'd like to see explored. Feel free to post about them.

As for my idea about government mode.
My primary idea would be an almost single-player experience with a player taking control of the government, trying and failing to contain and deal with exterior threats to the national sphere.
It's early, very early, but it's partially inspired by another game I wrote not too long ago.

There's no dedicated website for Hearts of Darkness outside my personal site where I keep everything.

I do plan on fixing up the PDF to make it better than the nightmare that is a Google Docs PDF, probably after I finish up the last PDF Conversion.

As usual, I am here for questions.

They were warned that any man born to their people would bring ruin. Ganondorfs mom tried to hide him in the desert so they wouldn't kill him and went to twinrova to protect him.

They, being desert witch cunts with an eye for prophecy, took him in and raised him to adulthood (while quitely dispatching his mother). Then he return to the Gerudo as a super powerful warlock built like a brick shithouse and entralled his people before the events of OoT.

It would almost be tragic if he wasnt such a bastard.

in my setting, orcs can only interbreed with other species. Female orcs can only interbreed with men of other species, male orcs can only interbreed with women of other species.
It is like this because it is my fetish.

>> No.77133034

My only problem with the Gerudo is the fact that Link needs to crossdress to be in Gerudo town after you defeat the desert beast. I really wish you could just wear the Voe Desert Armor after that, because I am not a fan of forced crossdressing and the joke gets old quick.

Hard question to answer.
Best setting to play in? I would go Hiperborea for gritty, Athas for more high level games.
Best setting I would like to live in? Tought call, but perhaps Glorantha.
The setting I Feel the more comfortable feeling for? Middle Earth.
The Setting I stole more from? Dominions 5/Conquest of Elysium.
And I could go one.

Seems an overreaction. The head and arms are posable and there's options for holsters and scabbards. So compared to marines of old it's just the torso and legs that are joined.

>> No.77118039

yeah but these days you have sooo much options and no amount of yelling is going to change their minds. GW models today are extremely well detailed and for them tere is way more money for them in the current path the are taking now.

but at the end of the day is your hobbying if you dont like what GW is doing look elsewhere. Frostgrave wizards box sounds like something exactly up your alley, There is so much options with 3d printing and other miniature companies the hobbying part you seem to enjoy is probably cheaper then one box of monopose GW minis. This is like complaininjg that todays music is shit and it was only good before but you didnt actually put effort in finding todas music that you like.

Fun fact: Games Workshop didn't make miniatures for the first 4 years of their existence. They hand-made Chess and Backgammon sets and sold boardgames, before becoming the UK importers of a new game called Dungeons & Dragons in 1978. They worked up the money to start Citadel Miniatures in 1979.
